How to play Blossom

Make twelve words from the seven letters on the flower. Every word needs at least four letters and must use the centre letter; letters can repeat. Longer words score more (a seven-letter word is worth 12), a pangram with all seven letters earns +7, and the petal outlined in gold is the bonus petal: +5 for every time its letter appears in your word. Use it and the gold outline moves to the next letter. Full rules and a practice flower on the how to play page.

Frequently asked questions

What is Blossom?

Blossom is a word game with seven letters on a flower: six on the petals and one in the centre. You plant exactly twelve words. Every word must be at least four letters long, use only the seven letters (repeats are fine) and include the centre letter. Longer words score more, a pangram that uses all seven letters earns seven extra, and the petal outlined in gold is the bonus petal: its letter is worth five extra points every time it appears in a word. Make the twelve highest-scoring words you can.

Is this the Merriam-Webster Blossom?

No. Merriam-Webster publishes one Blossom a day with no archive and no unlimited mode. Puzzlune's Blossom uses the same rules with flowers and word lists we build ourselves: a free daily flower, unlimited mode in three difficulties, a bonus-aware hint, a review of your twelve words against the best plan, and a free archive. We are not affiliated with Merriam-Webster.

How does the bonus petal work?

One petal is outlined in gold. Its letter scores +5 for every occurrence in the word you play. After you play a word that uses the bonus letter, the gold outline moves to the next outer letter in alphabetical order; words that don't use it leave the petal where it is. That's the whole strategy: plan which word you play on which petal.

What is the best possible score?

The score bar shows the best possible score for this flower: the twelve-word plan that rides the bonus petal for the most points, worked out exactly. Your rank is a share of it, from Seed to Garden; match it and you've grown a perfect garden. After your twelfth word you can open the best plan and compare it with yours.

How do the hints work?

The hint shows the best word you can play right now, bonus petal included, in two steps: first its length, first letter and points, then the word itself. The daily flower allows three hints; unlimited mode has no limit. Games with hints show a 💡 in the share text.

Which words count?

Common English words plus rarer but valid words, built from the same list as our Spelling Bee. No flower contains the letter S, and no list includes proper nouns, hyphenated words or offensive terms. The best possible score is computed from the common words only, so a rare word can take you past it.

Do I need an account?

No. Progress, streak and stats are stored in your browser. Your streak counts a day once all twelve words are planted.
